Planting Seeds for the Future on World Cleanup Day!

World Cleanup Day is annually celebrated on the 2nd week of Saturday in September. This is an event organized by Let’s Do It World (LDIW) global organization to mobilize volunteers of 191 countries to take part in a green-wave cleanup. It is a day that brings together millions of people for the biggest waste collection movement. However, cleaning up trash from our beaches, rivers, forests, and streets is not the only way for us to take action.

In 2023, World Clean Up Day was celebrated by De Heus Myanmar colleagues with two main activities. One was to collaborate with JCI Myanmar organization in educating waste segregation at Rima Charity School for the bright young minds. It is also a way to instill empowerment, appreciation, and develop environmental responsibility practices from a young age. The event opened up with an introduction from Junior Chamber International (JCI) about the purpose of World Cleanup Day. Later, the children participated in interactive games to support their learning engagement and increase awareness of the impact of human activity on the environment.

In this digital age, similar to the environment, there is a huge amount of trash as well; unnecessary emails, files, applications, duplicate of photos and videos are all digital waste! The carbon footprint of the internet will be 20% of global greenhouse emissions in 2030! These digital wastes create digital pollution that continues to consume electricity. Therefore, every time we delete unnecessary files and applications from our devices, we save a considerable amount of CO2. De Heus Myanmar office employees also challenged to clean up our digital space to be a part of the solution in CO2 reduction! As everyday users of cloud software, email communication, documenting and so much more, it is a reminder that all of us can take part in a small action to create a big impact.
